300 to 400 dengue cases identified daily

Health authorities say around 300 to 400 dengue cases are being reported daily in the country at present.
According to the National Dengue Control Unit, 5,967 cases have been reported in the first 20 days of May.
Meanwhile, Secretary of the Government Medical Officers’ Association Dr. Haritha Aluthge said 17 percent of the MOH areas in the country have been declared as high-risk zones for dengue.
He noted that the death toll due to dengue has already reached 24 for the year and the recent increase in the number of cases is concerning.
Dr. Haritha Aluthge said they have noticed an alarming number of dengue cases in the Colombo, Gampaha, Kalutara, Batticaloa, Trincomalee and Puttalam districts.
He said the general public has a huge responsibility to destroy mosquito breeding grounds and assist efforts of authorities to control the rapid spread of dengue in the country.
