Ex-PM Mahinda Rajapaksa leaves Temple Trees

Former Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa left Temple Trees this morning.
The development was confirmed by the Office of the Prime Minister. Mahinda Rajapaksa resigned yesterday amid mass protests at the government’s handling of a deepening economic crisis.
The letter of resignation was sent by Mahinda Rajapaksa to President Gotabaya Rajapaksa last evening in an attempt to resolve the current crisis.
The Secretary to the President then issued an Extraordinary Gazette Notification declaring the resignation of Mahinda Rajapaksa from the post of Prime Minister.
Meanwhile, the island-wide curfew imposed yesterday amidst violence across the country, is currently in place. Curfew is expected to be lifted at 7am tomorrow.
